Your home page contains several news feeds you can use to keep up to date on people in your network, as well as what they’re discussing. Use these feeds to participate in the discussions you find interesting, to start your own discussions and to get in touch with your contacts.
LinkedIn Today
LinkedIn places the headlines and images of “trending” news stories in a row near the top of your home page. Click these stories to read them.
Status updates
When your contacts change something in their profiles, connect with other people or post messages, news about those changes appear in your status updates feed (just below LinkedIn Today).
Use this news to do things like:
- ask for an introduction to one of your connection’s latest connections
- congratulate people on finding new positions
- reach out to connections
Search LinkedIn status updates
Many people post status updates to LinkedIn. All these updates reside in the system, ready to be found. The tool you use to find relevant updates is called LinkedIn Signal.
Use Signal to find out what people are saying in their status updates about the companies you listed in your “poster-child client” list as part of your LinkedIn game plan. You can also look for mentions of news items, specific industries or other things leading to discussions you want to have.
To use Signal, follow these steps:
- Visit www.linkedin.com/signal.
- Use the search bar and criteria at the left side of the page to search for specific topics.
- Check out Trending Links at the right side of the page. If the topic you’re interested in is listed here, click it.
