I recently read a PDF of a book on an Asus Vivo Tab (Windows RT edition). That was the first time I ever read a book “cover to cover” using material other than paper.
While I found the device itself lacking, there’s a lot to be said for reading books on handheld tablet devices:
- you can carry may books in one light, convenient package
- you can insert as many bookmarks as you like
- you can comment (at least on the PDF) using on-screen editing tools
- you can change the font size to make the document easier to read
- and so on
The following video explains iBooks, Apple’s ereader software, but the features mentioned can be found on most ereaders (e.g. Kindle, Kobo, Nook) and tablet ereader software (e.g. iPad, Android devices, Windows 8 devices). The “night” feature is particularly cool.
