When you create many numbered lists in a document, the first list might be the only one to start at the number one. Subsequent lists start at the number after the last number in the preceding list. In some cases, this is what you want to do.
But if you want to create, for instance, an instruction manual that contains many separate sequences of instructions, each list needs to start from one.
To restart a numbered list using Microsoft Word, follow these steps.
- Apply the correct number style to the list you want to create.
- Right-click the first item in the list and choose Restart Numbering.
