People commonly tell me they don’t get this Facebook-Twitter-Linkedin-Youtube-Myspace-whathaveyou world of ours. I don’t blame them. In our enthusiasm, we’ve created a jumble of spaghetti using social media.
A better metaphor: it’s like somebody emptied a large toolbox onto the floor. The resulting disorganized pile of tools does little to encourage understanding of what each one is for.
That’s why I like this article by Chris Brogan, President of New Marketing Labs. It spells out why you would use social media, the goals you can accomplish.
If you took away all the names, social media is basically three major activities: listening, connecting, and publishing.
